You Dumb Summa-ma-Bitch

On August 9th, Bernie Mac died from complications due to pneaumonia at the ripe ol’ age of 50.  Living in the dorms during my college years, I was introduced to The Original Kings of Comedy.  Seeing Bernie’s rant during the last act of the show turned me into a huge fan of his.  If talking about having a fag for a nephew, trying to get a bj from your girl, beating little kids, and how black people can say “mother fucker” 32 times in one sentence isn’t comedy gold, then I don’t know what is.

Since doing the Kings of Comedy, his career took off.  He got his own tv show, The Bernie Mac Show, which aired for almost six years.  He has also been in some big movie hits such as Bad Santa, Oceans 11-13, Guess Who, and my favorite of his, Mr. 3000.

Coming out November 7th is Soul Men, where he co-stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson.  Here is the plot courtesy of IMDB.  “Though it’s been some twenty years since they have spoken with one another, two estranged soul-singing legends agree to participate in a reunion performance at the Apollo Theater to honor their recently deceased band leader.”  A creepy sidenote about the movie, Isaac Hayes is also in the movie, who passed away after production as well.  This movie however, won’t be Mac’s last.  In August, he will play Jimmy Lunchbox in the movie Old Dogs, which stars Seth Green, John Travolta, Robin Williams, and Matt Dillon.

I am going to end this post with some vintage Bernie Mac, and by encouraging everyone to go see Soul Men in honor of him, or Cedric the Entertainer will come challenge you to a breakdance battle.
